2011...Looking back

What a year 2011 has been.....

In February, MOMENT by Deirdre Kinahan opened in the Bush Theatre, London for a 4-week run where it received unanimous critical acclaim and a series of 4 and 5 star reviews. MOMENT then embarked on a 7 venue National Tour.

BOGBOY by Deirdre Kinahan was invited to this year's 1st Irish Theatre Festival in New York in September. Staged at the Irish Arts Center, BOGBOY received critical acclaim in the New York press including the Critics Pick in the New York Times. BOGBOY also scooped 3 awards including Best Production, Best Actress (Sorcha Fox) and Best Director (Jo Mangan). BOGBOY returned to Ireland on a brief tour to three national venues.

In October, the Bush Theatre, London opened their doors to its new home with Sixty-Six Books, an epic performance cycle featuring over 200 artists from across the globe including a new play by Deirdre Kinahan 'The Transgressor' starring Aidan Kelly and Owen Sharpe.

What the critics had to say this year…..

‘In Deirdre Kinahan’s Bogboy a wry recovering addict makes even failure sound sadly funny……the pungent pared down language contributing to an atmosphere thick with dread and loneliness’ Critics Pick, New York Times

‘Superb performances, fluid direction from Jo Mangan and stunning but subtle visual and sound design by Ciaran Bagnall and Philip Stewart, vividly evoke this story of a long-past dark secret and a more recent misfired attempt at friendship, both in a dark and lonely place’ Critics Pick, Backstage.com

'What gripped me about this one was Kinahan's assured handling of dramatic form... what matters is Kinahan's ability to show how the present is contaminated by the past, and how drama, like any other art form, depends on a rigorous command of structure.' **** Michael Billington, The Guardian

2012... What's to come

It is with sadness that we say farewell to our Company Manager Tracy Martin who is leaving us (boo!) to pursue a career as a director and writer (hurray!) We wish Tracy every success in her endeavours.

Plans are afoot for a new dance/theatre show JOYS created by Murine Bloomer, Deirdre Kinahan and Mark O’Halloran. Set in a notorious night club on Dublin’s Leeson Street;  JOYS  is a dark, desperate and comic exploration of broken dreams, broken marriage, loneliness and forgiveness.JOYS is supported by Meath County Council Arts Office

Mark O’Halloran is to come on board as Literary Associate in 2012 with plans for workshops and play readings throughout the year - watch this space. Tall Tales welcome any unsolicited scripts particularly from writers in Co. Meath.

We are delighted to collaborate with Meath County Council, Solstice and Meath Library Service in a celebration of works by Mary Lavin entitled Tales from Bective Bridge.

We announced in 2011 that Steep Theatre Company, Chicago will produce MOMENT by Deirdre Kinahan in July/August. Watch this space for further international and national dates!
